WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades give you an increase in certain stats. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. A random extra substat is also added to each upgrade.
The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like Eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the need to roll to get a perfect version.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. The item upgrader mod used to upgrade the item upgrading is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.
You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up to date.
Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item however, they are always cheaper than purchasing new gear. For example, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from another player will costs 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for various currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be applied to any weapon or tool with a button, which will display an image of the item at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.
The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot for the item and the current item level. For instance, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.
Upgraders for items can be found in many places on the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and the possibility of getting a new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or complete quests.
Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader mod upgrader at start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades are acquired via a variety of means which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.
In Season 3, the upgrade system was altered a bit, with some new features added. After a player has earned an upgrade to a particular level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading further items to that same item level will be less expensive, even in the event that they belong to a different gear set.
The discount applies to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievement.
Crests
When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW players have a variety of choices. They can use Flightstones, which are a common upgrade currency available to everyone players, or crests that are more specific and used to upgrade specific item levels. Crests are an integral component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.
First, you must be aware that crests are only available for equipment that is that is of a particular rank. Each rank has a different upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade requires up to 20 crests, based on the type of gear being upgraded.
Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities or completing dungeons and raids in any difficulty to earn lower-level gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader for the item such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and pathways.
The new currency system isn't difficult to use, however it brings some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change allows players to upgrade item their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all of their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.
Another important change is that crests only have one use, so it's important to use them properly. For instance it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the best gear you have available and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan on making. This is especially relevant for items like trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The account-wide discount is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
