The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.
Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also quiet and works while you're at work or in school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. If you want to change the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of minutes.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its smart cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that appears much like a Roomba model than the boxy models of the rivals. It's among our most attractive robot vacuums uk vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).
It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 in our evaluations, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a problem in mornings prior to work or during the night when you're trying to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and more attractive. If you're willing to put up some more volume and some additional cost this is a capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features to help you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.
Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to the degree of dirt they are.
If you own a larger home, it's worth choosing a model that has the option of cleaning zones or spots. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have number of furniture. Finally the recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've tried. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that can be washed.
The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance. The app also provides access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It also has a strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like adorable eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to be caught by low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
