Components
Upgrade components make your armour and weapons better. You can get them from fighting off enemies, locating them in item spheres or purchasing them from karma sellers. You can also salvage them from equipment containing the components or by using salvage kits of high-end quality, such as Black Lion Salvage Kit and Ascended Salvage Tool. Upgrade components cannot be destroyed when you remove them from the item.
Upgrade components are typically used to upgrade an item but they can also be used for other reasons. They can be stacked in order to boost the level or experience gained from upgrading existing weapons or gear. They can be forged for additional benefits. A glyph that has been crafted can increase the chances of upgrading its target while an upgrade boosts the attack or defense attributes of weapons.

The amount of defense and damage the item is able to receive when it is leveled can be shown below the upgrade cost and decrease percentages in the upgrade template window. Apart from the practice equipment, all weapons and armor gain the same stats when they are upgraded. The value of these additional stats will be dictated by the market, with a perfectly perfectly rolled version of a piece of armor or weapon can command significantly more in trade value than unupp'd versions.
